“It’s clear VXT is built for law firms. We’re capturing a lot more billable time, and it pays for itself."

About Treadwell Gordon

Treadwell Gordon is one of New Zealand's oldest law firms, with five offices across the Manawatū region where they've been serving clients for over 150 years.

Today, the team has grown to 53 strong, offering general practice legal services to personal and business clients across New Zealand.

Despite the long history, they're committed to staying ahead of the curve by embracing modern technology and digital tools to deliver a faster, more efficient service for their clients.

Problem

Treadwell Gordon's old landline phones were doing the bare minimum. Their challenges included:

  • Tied to the desk: Traditional handsets meant lawyers had to be physically at their desk to take a call, limiting flexibility for staff who needed to move between offices or work remotely.
  • Clunky call handling across offices: With standalone landlines at each of the five offices, there was no easy way to make sure every call was routed correctly. If the local office couldn't pick up, there was no clean way for the call to reach someone who could.
  • Manual time and note capture: Without an integration into a practice management system, capturing billable time and recording call notes relied entirely on lawyers remembering to write things down after the fact, resulting in revenue leakage and undocumented calls.

When Treadwell Gordon decided to move to a new practice management system, the old landlines became impossible to ignore. They couldn't integrate with the new system, and the daily friction had already been pushing the firm to look for something better.

Solution

Treadwell Gordon switched to VXT alongside their move to their new practice management system, LEAP. In doing so, they found a phone system purpose-built for the way law firms actually work.

With VXT, the team saw:

By replacing ageing desk phones with VXT, a firm that's been around for over a century and a half now runs on a phone system that fits how lawyers actually work today.

"It's clear that VXT is built for law firms, with all the functionality around time recording and note capture," says Linda Bardell, People & Compliance Manager at Treadwell Gordon.

"Plus, the ability to do anything at any time anywhere is what we find most valuable."

"We're definitely capturing a lot more billable time.

“It pays for itself.”
