Plenty of law firms are facing the same challenges, but don’t have a community of similar firms to swap stories, ask tough questions, and share what’s actually working.
That’s why at our latest File Notes Live event in Auckland last week, we brought together a small group of law firm leaders to do exactly that.
What is File Notes Live?
We created File Notes Live to give guests a chance to connect in a setting that’s part dinner, part roundtable. Every event brings together a small, curated group of firm owners, ops leads, and tech-savvy attorneys to unpack what’s actually happening on the ground.
At our latest dinner, we were joined by David Lisitsa from NewLaw, who shared a bunch of insights from the firms he consults with across Australia and NZ.
We recently had David on the File Notes podcast, where he explained the key steps firms should take before rolling out new software, plus some of the strategies he shared at the dinner. You can check out the episode below if you’re interested!
Key takeaways
David answered some burning questions and shared insights you’d normally pay a consultant thousands for. Here’s a few of the highlights we discussed:
1. Don’t start with tools, start with workflow
David recommended that before shopping for new tech, firms should first map out their existing processes. Firms should consider questions like: “What’s slowing things down?”, and “Where are the real bottlenecks?”.
2. Think about bringing in tech help
For firms with 20+ staff, bringing in a tech-savvy hire can make a huge difference to your processes. Guests asked loads of questions on how to actually find good tech hires.
Bringing on tech help doesn’t have to be an expensive process though. Instead, your firm could even hire an external consultant (like one of the experts from New Law) as a tech adviser. They can help with custom integrations, automations, and make sure your current setup actually works well together.
3. Small changes = big wins
David is big on finding the 20% of effort that can deliver 80% of the results. Legal tech tools like VXT are built with this in mind; simple to use and packed with the everything you need (and nothing you don’t).
Never heard of VXT? We’re a phone system built for attorneys. Check out our features like time tracking, AI phone call transcripts and summaries, and contact syncing with your legal software, to see how we can help your law firm save time, mitigate risk, and generate more revenue.
4. You might already have what you need
Many firms are under-utilising the systems they already pay for. Often, an update or feature is available, you just haven’t been told about it. So be prepared to ask your providers questions.
But also stay in the loop. For instance, to stay up to date with VXT follow us on Linkedin or join the conversation on our new VXT subreddit!
